The Plantronics Savi W430 is a wireless USB headset with software that integrates with Skype, and SIP softphones for one-touch call control. It also integrates with Cisco, Avaya, Microsoft, IBM, and more. With DECT technology, it has a range of up to about 100 metres. Reference the TMCnet blog by Tom Keating for an excellent review of the softphone capabilities for the Savi 430.
Another obvious application is dictating notes on your PC. One of our customers uses his Savi 430 with Nuance Dragon speech recognition software. An excellent tool to record lab or patient interview observations.
Note that the Savi 430 box places the AC power supply underneath the cardboard insert that protects the rest of the contents. This is awkward to re-pack if you want to use the packaging as your carrying case, and can easily fall out. Plantronics needs to improve the packaging so the power supply packs in the top of the cardboard form (like the VoyagerPro), and consider providing a convenient carrying case for the complete unit (base, power supply, earpiece, USB stick and USB charging cable) as an accessory for what is essentially a portable device.
